In Pre-Prep this term, we have had lots of fun, smiles and laughter. We have been working incredibly hard and have been involved in some lovely educational experiences. We have learnt how to dial ‘999’ and apply a cold compress during our First Aid course, as well as been visited by Firefighters in preparation for Bonfire Night.

In our EYFS classroom, the children have been doing lots of topic work learning about Peace Day, Diwali, Remembrance Day, Bonfire Night and Christmas. The children have completed an abundance of crafting activities making some beautiful pieces of art. Bluebird and Reception have been working hard with their phonics knowledge focusing on phases 1 and 2, with some children in Reception receiving their very first reading book! The children have been enthusiastic with their maths activities and have been working towards recognising and forming their numbers.

The children in Year One have shown great enjoyment in their Welly Wednesday lessons where they have focused on caring for the environment. The children enjoyed making bird feeders out of pinecones. It was very exciting leaving the pinecones outside and then coming back to find no food left from the feeders!

The highlight of this term for the Year One children was the visit from the Gingerbread Man which as you can imagine, was very exciting! The Gingerbread Man was filmed running through the classroom with all his friends. We completed lots of work focussed on the Gingerbread Man story such as writing wanted posters and re-writing the ending to the story.

Pre-Prep’s lessons this term have had a large focus on fine motor skills. Whilst Bluebird have continued to enjoy their Dough-Disco lessons, a new lesson ‘Pen Disco’ has been introduced in Reception and Year 1 to further promote the strengthening of hand control and writing skills. The children have adored their Pen-Disco lessons where they have been able to sing, dance and learn!

Pre-Prep are looking forward to the coming term, with no doubt lots more fun activities. After trial and error during our first term, the Pre-Prep staff have been working hard on making changes to the department’s enrichment programme. Our new approach will take on a continuous provision style set up, which will consist of two topics ‘Life Skills’ and ‘Finger Gym’. We will be looking at important skills such as putting on our clothes independently, tying shoelaces, whilst continuing to strengthen our fine motor skills using Play-Doh and learning how to use scissors correctly.

Wishing you a safe and lovely Christmas and a happy New Year.

Miss Nugent
